Progress Reports/Action Item Review:
Administrative:
Agreed that celebrations will fund some of the initial costs of the 250th effort, and will sell mugs as a fundraiser
Call Nancy before spending any of your own money!
Any expenses above $50 should be reviewed by the committee
Agreed we would meet weekly on Fridays at 9:15 until town meeting, when we will revisit meeting frequency
Funding:
Sara called Bill Tyler with Codman Trust to understand what they’ve funded in the past. Will continue to follow up
Can set up a gift account at town offices to receive gift funds.
Celebrations: No report
Cultural: No Report (encourage Susan H. to tap into skills of former Lincoln Players
Education/Schools:
Joan will follow up with Carla to determine interest in leading the Schools track
Agreed to focus on building our team until after town meeting, on theory that school personnel are preoccupied at this point.
Families:
Sara reported Doris Bardley’s idea about a school picnic where old families invite new families to share a blanket and exchange a dish
Historical
Joan presented copies of the book prepared to document the 200th celebration and a copy of a special edition newspaper prepared around the 200th
There is significant additional information in the library to sift through
Joan will work with the historical society and others as necessary
Special Events/Parties:
DeCordova is interested in giving us a “good” date. Tucker leaning towards April, since we don’t want to do summer and the “Birthday Party” is planned for September
Stewardship/Land:
Joan reported three ideas from the NPS for what they could do (they are in all cases offering space and potentially limited staff, but they have no budget for food and other items)
Evening event at the visitors center. Perhaps show the film, have a speaker. Can accommodate 100 –150 inside; possible to have a tent outside (we’d pay for)
Hartwell Tavern Barn Event – a square dance/contra dance in the barn, and ice cream social. Can accommodate 200 people
A trail walk – 2 hour customized to Lincoln discussing Lincoln’s role. Sara expressed interest in Lincoln’s role in the battle – the change from skirmishes to a real war happening on Lincoln’s soil
Sara reported that Thoreau/Walden interested in doing a lecture series.
Sara and Joan will both find out from above organizations when they’d need us to make a decision
Other:
Debbie Page joined representing Established families
Marketing/Outreach
Logo: Joan/Deb will take Nancy’s logo (we’ve all agreed on its elements) to a graphic designer (Lindsay Clemens, others?) and bring a few concepts back to our next meeting
Town Meeting:
Will hopefully sell coffee mugs with the logo at the meeting.
Will have a table at the meeting (with balloons), staffed from 9-3, where we’ll have a suggestion box (with an intake form for people to fill out), a 1-page hand-out on our mission and approach, a bibliography of historical books on Lincoln, and copies of the 1954 200th anniversary book
Will make a short presentation (Will attempt to get copies of old photos/historical visuals for backdrop of presentation); all committee members should expect to sit at the front of the auditorium
Deb will see if Boy Scouts can help with selling mugs and/or handing out materials
Will try to get a photo from the 1954 ball to display
