Discussion: Kick Off for Commemorative/Cultural Category
Susan Harding led the meeting. Several ideas were discussed, as follows. Susan will coordinate with the leads of the various activities as necessary and appropriate. All ideas need to be added to the master calendar
Community Musical Performance. (Rob Todd). Bring together choirs of various churches, school groups, other groups to do a community choral event. It might combine different groups (barbershop, etc.) as well as a few songs by the entire group. Audience participation likely included, too. Critical to success is a limited rehearsal commitment. Possibly could charge “dues” to pay for a leader. Date TBD, but January to kick off the event and December for a reprise were diccussed.
Community Theater Performance. (Mikki Lipsey). Potentially outdoors, at DeCordova. Mikki will investigate possibility of using the DeCordova amphitheater.
Children’s Theater (Elaine Jarvis). Probably need to piggy back with some other event. Would include 1-6th grades. Possible to do a cabaret where children are waiters and waitresses; possible to do something historical (although this means getting someone to write something). Date, concept TBD. Possible it will make sense to coordinate with the indoor birthday party. Elaine will do some thinking and coordinate with Susan.
Community Quilt (Lois Frampton) Because creating quilts costs money, we will probably create a raffle quilt, and the sale of the raffle tickets will pay for the raffle quilt and the community quilt. It takes at least 4 months to create the raffle quilt. The community quilt will be about 3 feet by 5 or 6 feet. Where it will be hung is still to be determined.
Video Festival (Nancy Pimental for now. . . )Create an opportunity for community wide viewing of the Townies Video, the Farm Video, and the Spirit of Lincoln Videos. We need to sit and watch them back to back to determine the attractiveness of a joint screening. Possibly they could be shown before a community theater at DeCordova. Nancy will investigate the costs of renting outdoor “drive-in” movie theater equipment for an outdoor summer evening at Pierce Park.
“250th Video” Deb Dorsey. Create a video out of still photography images to document what Lincoln looks like in 2004. With audio of Lincoln folks talking about Lincoln Perhaps organize by season. Rob Todd is collecting Lincoln photographs for the Historical Society calendar; there may be opportunities to share images. Also, we need to enroll an “oral historian type.” Deb will contact Brad Meyer about audio. Also, she will work on a cost estimate for creating the film. Probably this would be for viewing (paid admission?), but not for sale.
Review of Current Action Items
Tucker will work with Stacy to get DeCordova dates
Nancy suggested that we reconsider the Birthday Party and make it a 250th Anniversary Committee event, and that the Celebrations Committee do something else. The something else might be the outdoor video festival, above, or a Family Fun Night with Cake.
