Discussion:
Update on the Re-do of the 200th booklet
Sara researched costs of the booklet; for less than 5,000 we could mail town-wide. Agreed on several aspects:
We will print 5 or 6,000 to have plenty to hand out at events, and mail town-wide
The booklet will be mailed to the town in late December/early January
We will be ready to go to print in early December
We will do an inexpensive production – folded paper, stapled, card stock cover; postal label on the back (no envelope)
The elements will be:
A calendar of events
An updated historical timeline
Some historical visuals (of the entire 250 years of history)
At least 1 then/now picture showcasing the changes of the last 50 years (pearhaps the mall and RR station?)
The addition of some of the recent public buildings
Some sort of essay or other piece on the uniqueness of Lincoln
The timeline is in progress thanks to the efforts of Peg Martin. We now need to augment those results. We need input of the people who actively participated in public town life (such as Roz DeLori and Buzz Constable) as well as the input from the “old-timers” group
We need an editor to make the decisions about what should be in. Probably someone who has a good sense of history, but has not been terribly active in the town would be the best choice. Sara will approach David Donald.
Sara will take the next steps in terms of a mechanism for input
In our role as clearinghouse for 250th related brainstorms, we reviewed the master calendar draft and deleted several items. We identified many action items to further clarify what should/should not be on the list.
Report from the “Old timers Group”
Judy Emmons reported that a well-attended and spirited meeting of old-timers produced lots of reminiscences and a desire to interview many people in the town. We discussed the purpose of this group, and agreed that we hope that they can provide a sense of the “history that does not get captured in town reports.” We agreed that it would be most helpful if the group could audiotape the interviews and meetings. Sara will ask Brad Meyer and a woman who does oral history if they might be able to help out.
Kick-Off of the Land Groups
Not a one of the land groups made the meeting, begging us to question our approach. So:
We will send a letter to the town land groups outlining what we are doing, include our mission statement, and ask to attend their next meeting. Sarah will draft
We hope that the Group of Six will organize event(s) around fixing up the trails, and Sara agreed to take that idea to those committees
Sara will continue to follow up with Drumlin, Walden, Food Project and other institutional groups to encourage them to do something that they are good at, and keep us informed of what it is.
Tucker will discuss with the Bemis Trustees an idea of doing an evening on the role of assessment (nb: we need to have a coordinated approach w/ the Bemis trustees –perhaps we need to figure out what they want to do, what we should do, and manage the ideas that get dropped. Perhaps Sara and Tucker can talk on this?)
Schools Update
We will use the same letter with attendance at one of their meetings with the volunteer schools groups
Sara will close the loop with Mickey to tell him that we will try to work with the school volunteer organizations so as not to burden the schools. Also, she will try to get a contact person who can work with the NPS to do some sort of school-age kids event.
Other
We will do a Fourth of July float; meet at Sarah’s house (33 Tower Road) at 7:30 on June 18th to drink wine, plan and have fun
Over the summer:
Joan will work on publicity, including logo
We will all share the responsibility of attending the meetings of schools groups and land groups to explain our approach and build their enthusiasm
Sarah will work on the fund-raising plan
Patty will get the Master Calendar to a solid first draft by contacting the various groups in Lincoln to ascertain if they are or ain’t doing a 250th spin on their events
Sara will move the booklet forwards
We will hope not to meet, except for float planning, until the fall
Next meeting date: July Fourth Float planning at Sarah Andrysiak’s
Agenda: Socialize, plan, socialize, laugh (we hope)
