Discussion:
Core Activities for 250th Group
Reviewed list of core activities in light of funding requirements (cost of Adams/Jefferson). Sara reported Codman Trust appears interested in funding the debate, even more than in funding historical publications. Codman is apparently hard to predict in what it will fund. . . Committee agreed that Sara should complete the Codman Trust grant application, and include publications and other core activities in the hopes that we can broaden Codman Trust’s interest. Also agreed that the Jefferson debate should be an educational rather than historical category event.
Agreed that on the Fourth of July, we don’t need a through the ages exhibit.
Agreed we need a schools event. Kathy will take the current brainstormed list to the PTO ? for their input. Also agreed that we should approach Minuteman Park to create a schools field trip. Will organize a schools brainstorming session where all schools entities are included. (Note: we STILL NEED A SCHOOLS LEAD if we’re doing more than just getting NPS to organize a field trip)
Publications for 250th Group
An updated history with visuals and an overview of the core activities. Sara looking in to cost of getting it tape bound.
A master calendar with the core activities highlighted and all town activities with a 260th slant listed. Need to determine how we’ll figure out what has the appropriate slant.
A “fridge list” of events inserted in Rob Todd’s Historical Calendar
Other Potential Ideas list
In our role as clearinghouse for 250th related brainstorms, we reviewed the master calendar draft and deleted several items. We identified many action items to further clarify what should/should not be on the list.
Other
How do we create an organized front to the National Park Service. Historical society has lead, but we may want to approach them for something for the schools
We have 2 venues – Holden “estate” and Codman Carriage House – that we could use for an event, but the event has not surfaced yet.
Kathy J. raised a different quilt approach using a woman who does a lot of community quilt projects. Kathy will investigate possibilities and will be in touch with Susan.
How are we going to work as summer approaches???
