The minutes of 6/7/05 were accepted as published.

The treasurer’s report was accepted. The Council ended the fiscal year on goal, and the expenditures and income for the current year are also on target. The state grant of $6217 of last years increased to  $6721 for this year and is all allocated to transportation.

Karen Santucci reported on her attendance at the American Society on Aging conference, which covered a variety of subjects. She next reminded the Council on confidentiality and  our obligations in this area. The Register of Probate of Middlesex County has offered to make a presentation on probate which the meeting welcomed.  The Beverly Foundation has asked that we apply for their volunteer driver award program. The chosen organization will be awarded $5000 and individual drivers could receive $100 awards.

There will be a breakfast for our Meals on Wheels and LINC drivers on 9/22/05. Our Outdoor Adventures program – biking, kayaking, hiking- has been well received with as many as 10 people participating in an event. There possibly will be another bike ride this fall. On 9/26/05 the movie The Music Man will be shown in memory of  Jean Cousins. Our new large screen and new projector are working very well.

The calendar for October was discussed. Karen will be on leave from 10/5 through 10/15/05.  The neighborhood outreach meetings are scheduled on 10/16/05, 10/23/05,  10/27/05, and 11/20/05.

Avram Kalisky reported for the Friends of the Council on Aging.  The Friends’ fiscal year closed with a smaller deficit than expected. Avram  and Harold McAleer reported on the status of the “Men’s” Calendar. They have ordered 2000 to be printed, and expect delivery in two weeks. Several businesses have agreed to sell them, and several sponsors have signed up. There will be a kick off for this at 2 PM on 10/16/05.   Other COA’s have agreed to sell them (for a cut), and hopefully there will be more. The proceeds will go to the Friends capital fund.

The Top of the Town party will be 12/4/05 at the Doubletree Hotel.

The flu clinic will be 11/19/05.

Bob Sutherland reported on the  4 scheduled outreach meetings at Battle Road Farm, Lincoln Ridge/Farrar Pond Village, Ryan Estate, and  at Wanda Paik’s home on Minebrook Road.. Postcard invitations will be sent..  We want to tell people who might not know us what we offer in the way of services and programs. He asked for Council members to come to the meetings and there were several volunteers. Karen will be present and speak at each meeting.

There was a brief discussion of term limits for COA members. The nominating committee of Peggy Boyer, Mary Sheldon, Dot Taylor will review this and report back later in the year.

John Caswell reported on Minuteman Senior Services. Of importance is the fact that SCM transportation has closed and has been replaced by Suburban . We use them for our bus/van trips. He mentioned the Medicare Part D situation – there are several expository meetings including one at Bemis 9/28/05.

Members were asked to review the minutes of each meeting carefully inasmuch as they must be published for public consumption and on the Town’s web site..

The meeting adjourned at 4:30 PM.

Respectfully submitted

John R. Caswell
