COA Meeting Minutes - April 18, 2006
LINCOLN COUNCIL ON AGING
Minutes of Board Meeting, April 18, 2006

The meeting was opened at 2:57 p.m. by Julie Pugh, Chairperson.

Present:  Bob Curtiss, Avram Kalisky, Bob Lenington, Jack McCandless, Bob Lenington, Julie Pugh, Karen Santucci, Mary Sheldon, Bob Sutherland, Dot Taylor, Pat Thompson.

The minutes of the April meeting were approved as presented by Bob Sutherland.

Treasurer’s Report – Bob Lenington
The new annual COA budget was approved, with the $3000.00 reinstated by the Selectmen at Town Meeting.

Director’s Report – Karen Santucci
New budget:  The $3,000 was re-distributed, with more going to transportation and office supplies.  Karen asks the Board to be more active in the budgeting process, as staffing needs are increasing.  For example, from 1991 to present, the number of people using transportation services has grown from 12 to 60.  The newsletter has grown from one page every other month to the current four legal size pages every month.  Mary Sheldon and Bob Curtiss are putting program attendance data into the computer.  Tax work off people help, but also require time from Karen.  Julie Pugh suggested a committee be formed to see if transportation policy should be re-vamped, as a taxi trip to Boston costs $100.00.  Karen pointed out that this is much cheaper than owning and operating our own van.  Fez Morse and Bob Curtiss will look at transportation with Priscilla Damon.
Our new projector is out for repair.  The Board agreed that the projector should be used only in Bemis Hall by a COA member who is knowledgeable about the machine.
Representatives from N.E. Deaconess will come to our May meeting to discuss their senior housing proposal.  They have signed a purchase and sale agreement for the land.  A town steering committee is forming, and Julie Pugh volunteered to be our liason.
The May calendar was reviewed.  The first Senior Men’s Coffee will be April 20, the next May 18.  The Volunteer Luncheon will be May 4.  The Strawberry Social will be June 15.

FCOA – Avram Kalisky
Planning is underway for a major event for May 2007.  It will be a three day arts and crafts show in Bemis Hall. The Top of the Town party will be December 3.

Clinics – Dot Taylor
The podiatry clinic is going well.  There were fewer than usual at today’s blood pressure clinic.

Housing – Avram Kalisky
The committee is struggling to find a builder for 30 Sunnyside Lane.  The bid that came in was twice as much as expected.  They will talk with a modular builder.  Minuteman Tech. will do the accessory apartment next to it.
Trips – Jack McCandless and Bob Lenington
37 people have signed up for the Fenway trip on April 29, but we committed to 50 tickets.  A Tanglewood trip is under consideration for July.

Publicity – Jack McCandless
Publicity for current activities is posted.  Our coverage on Channel 8 is improving.

Income Tax – Bob Sutherland and Bob Curtiss
About a dozen individuals were helped using Turbo Tax.

Nominating Committee – Dot Taylor
Valerie Lee had planned to come to this meeting, but is away.  She will probably fill the vacant seat on the Board.  The slate was accepted as proposed.  Some members have served longer than the proposed limits.  This will be addressed next year.

Programs – Bob Lenington
The Energy Discussion Group met successfully for a planning session.  The next meetings will be April 21 and May 30.

Other Business
For our May meeting, Julie asked for as many written reports as possible to allow time for the N.E. Deaconess presentation.
The Selectmen are looking for someone to video tape their meetings.
Fez Morse volunteered to transport the projector for repairs.
Dot Taylor, Julie Pugh, and Bob Lenington all volunteered to assist Karen with needed shopping at Costco.

The meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.

The next meeting will be May 9 at 3:00 p.m. in Bemis Hall.
