WETLAND FILINGS

Request for Determination of Applicability: Gerard du Toit. 151 Weston Road (Map 111-Block 5-Lot 0). For invasive plant removal and replanting of natives within the 50-foot buffer zone.

The applicant proposed to clear approximately 600 square feet of invasive exotic plants including glossy buckthorn, honeysuckle, and multiflora rose within the wetland buffer zone.  Clearing work will be done by manual means or a small chain saw and the downed wood will be removed off-site or chipped on-site. The area will be replanted with native shrubs, perennials, and ferns of varying heights, densities and wildlife value. The Commission may require additional plantings if sufficient ground cover is not obtained. Long-term monitoring of invasive species and maintenance of the native plantings is of critical concern and the applicant is prepared for this commitment.

The Commission voted 4-0 to close the hearing and issue a Negative Determination of Applicability.

Notice of Intent: Jeffrey & Eloise Patterson. 15 Beaver Pond Road (Map 74-Block 21-Lot 0). For construction of a one-room addition and stone wall.

The applicant proposed to construct a new, 263.5 square foot addition on existing lawn. They also proposed to extend an existing stone wall approximately 45 feet on the wetland side of the addition. All construction access will occur from the upland side of the project. All work is outside the 50-foot buffer zone with the closest point being approximately 70 feet from the wetlands. Four-foot high, heavy-duty construction fencing will be installed from the end of the existing stone wall, 10' feet beyond the proposed the stone wall and back out to the 100-foot buffer zone approximately 50 feet out from the existing house. The Commission also recommended that the applicant install heavy construction fencing around the drip line of any large trees outside the buffer zone they hope to protect during construction.

The Commission voted 5-0 to close the hearing and issue an Order of Conditions.

DISCUSSION ITEMS

Canoe Excursion & Browning Field Work Day
Conservation staff Anna Wilkins and Jane Layton led a canoe trip on the Sudbury River from 10-12 on Saturday, October 7th. The turn out was great and people really enjoyed the trip. In the afternoon, Anna, Jane, Tom and several horse enthusiasts worked at Browning's Field to clear invasive exotic plants along Weston Road and the field edges. The riding group tidied up the ring for the upcoming show.

Beavers at 126 & RR Tracks
Ruth Callahan breached the dam that the Commission found just below the railroad tracks. She trapped two beavers and has not found additional activity since. The Commission hired Mike Callahan to work on lowering the dam at Rte. 126 by 6-8".

Community Preservation Committee Request for Funds
Peter Von Mertens submitted two applications to the Community Preservation Committee. One application was a request in the amount of $50,000 to replenish the existing conservation fund. The other application was in the amount of $250,000 to aid in the support of acquiring an important piece of land within the next year.
The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the request for CPC funds.
