------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Minutes of the February 15, 2005 meeting were approved as written.

Demolition Delay By-Law:
34 Old Sudbury Road (demolish house):
Rick Wise came before the members with an application to demolish the existing house, which he purchased recently.  The house has been badly neglected and the previous homeowner did most or all of the work himself.  The photographs and report showed the house to be in poor shape.  Evelyn Harris, an abutter, said that she was in favor of the house being demolished.  After a brief discussion, a motion was made and seconded to approve the demolition request and the motion was unanimously approved.  Mr. Wise was reminded that he would need to get site plan approval from the Planning Board and a Special Permit from the Zoning Board of Appeals before he demolishes the house.

Historic District Review:
20 Trapelo Road (lap pool, spa, pergola, fence and landscaping)  Dan Gordon, Brian Frazier and Jim Gaddis, architects and builders for this project, came before the members to discuss the addition of the lap pool, spa, pergola, fence and landscaping around the fence.  They showed the members a plan, which showed what was proposed.  The pergola would be 8 feet wide by 40 feet long and made of western red cedar with a series of beams with rafters and with a natural finish.  There would be a fieldstone wall beneath the pergola with steps leading down to the pool.  The pool would be at grade with a 4-foot high picket fence around it, which is required by law.  The fence would be left natural with trees around the perimeter and plantings along the fence.   They said that the existing trees provide some screening.  They plan to put in either crab apple or Hawthorne trees as further screening.  These trees would be 2 ½” caliper trees in the 12 foot range, which would grow to about 20 feet.  Colin Smith asked them to check out the pool fence at the Meyers residence and also the fence at the Olsen residence as an example of a fence that blends into the background.  They also agreed to add screening around the existing tennis court, which was never properly screened.  The members approved in principle the proposed plan but need more specifics regarding size and species of plantings to be made.  Also needed on the plan was to show the location of the lighting, which should be kept to a minimum with nothing shining upward.   They will bring in a new plan and the members will be informed when it is available for viewing.  At that time, formal approval will be given for the project and a Certificate of Appropriateness will be issued.

Old Town Hall Corporation  The Commission received a letter from Lee Harrison, President of the Old Town Hall Corporation requesting approval to affix the numbers 25 above the door.  This would avoid confusion for delivery people and customers of the businesses housed there.  The numbers would be 6 inches high and made of black iron.  The members approved this request and Elaine Carroll will send Lee Harrison a letter approving the request.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Elaine Carroll
