Lincoln Disabilities Commission
Meeting Notes January 10 2005
Present: K. Stein, R. Loud, J. Bingham, K. Santucci, S. Bobbitt, A. Congdon, G. Muscolo
1. Minutes from the last meeting approved without changes.
2. Bemis Hall Advisory Committee: Abigail Congdon will be 'on call' for the advisory board as LDC liaison.
3. Schools: The Parents' Advisory Council's new website is www.lincolnpac.org and is now separate from the school website. J. Bingham will ask the town computer technician, Chuck Miller, to change the link on our website from the old to the new PAC website address.
An informational CD was given to school committee member Dennis Picker to share with other committee members and the school administration to gain more knowledge on how to work with and for students and families dealing with special education issues. There is concern, again, that the special education part of the school budget may be at risk for cuts this year. The dollars sent by the state to fund town special education expenditures gets put into the general school budget and is not earmarked specifically for special education expenses.
There is a continuing need to educate and support parents of special needs children so they can advocate for and support their children.
Gabriella Muscolo is trying to set up a service project for special education students to become involved with in town. The project needs to be defined- goals set by the children- and drivers found and some parents involved. Hopefully some L/S students would get involved as well.
4. Town Report for TM '05: great job John Bingham!
5.Annual Award: a recipient has been chosen and the commissioners will discuss wording for the citation and award which Kitty Stein and Abigail Congdon will put together after our February meeting.
6.Membership: Kitty Stein will step down as Chair in April.
Today is Sally Bobbitt's last meeting as she moves to Marlborough.
John Bingham will suspend membership during the summer pending
determining his future plans.
Other business: Rob Loud looked into the relationship between our website and the town's and noted ours is out of date! We discussed getting our approved notes, the Annual Report and a list of our addresses to Chuck Miller on a timely basis so he can keep the website updated. Abigail will work on figuring this out.
Rob will also do an article on our activities for this winter's issue of 'The Lincoln Review'.
