LINCOLN DISABILITIES COMMISSION MEETING NOTES
September 12, 2005
Present: Jill Harkaway, Kitty Stein, Rob Loud (Chair), Abigail Congdon (Secretary)
1. John Bingham will be spending much of his time in England this year, thus will not be attending meetings.
Rob would like to find a Commissioner from the Council on Aging to become a LDC Commissioner.
We are looking for 2-3 new members and would like to find some among the Council on Aging or Parents' Advisory Committee at the schools and hopefully find someone with a long community memory.
2.Mass. Office on Disabilities: Training session for community monitors will occur on Sept. 14-15 in Brookline at a cost of $15.00.
3. Timing and Frequency of Meetings: Instead of meeting every month, we are going to try having a one hour meeting every 2 months, to be changed if necessary. Our next meeting will be Monday November 9 at 11 a.m., with meetings following January 9 and the first Mondays in March and May.
4. Other business:
* This year the Selectmen are doing an inventory of the buildings in town which comply with American with Disabilities guidelines.
* We chose not to spearhead the 'Time Dollars' community volunteers issue which was brought to our attention last spring by John Bingham. Having floated the idea in town, we hope an individual will come forward to try it out in town.
* What we hope to get done this year:
1. Get the town working on making Town Offices totally accessible.
(Bemis Hall is now accessible but lacking in some areas in our point of view….)
2. Get an electric door opener installed at the library's main door.
5. Rob will assign someone the task of writing our annual report for the Town Report.
