LINCOLN DISABILITIES COMMISSION
Meeting Notes November 7 2005
Present: K. Deickler, A. Scheipers, R. Loud, A. Congdon, K. Stein, J. Harkaway,
Membership: The Commission Members currently are:
Rob Loud, Chair; Debby Dorsey, Vice-Chair; Abigail Congdon, Secretary; Gabriella Muscolo; Kitty Stein; Jill Harkaway; Kathy Deickler; Anita Scheipers (Town Liaison).
John Bingham has formally resigned as he has moved out of town.
Term ends for some current members: R. Loud/2006. J. Harkaway/2007.
A. Congdon/2006. K. Stein/2008. D. Dorsey/2007. K. Deickler/ 2008 (Muscolo?)
We need one or two more members, possibly another parent with a child in the schools and an older person. Rob hopes to have another member by our January meeting.
Communication: A. Congdon will email meeting notes to the town for the website once they are approved and to members before approval.
Meetings: They will be the first Monday of alternate months at 11 A.M. in the Donaldson Room and will last 1- 1 ½ hours.
Rob Loud is giving a copy of " Disabilities Issues Newsletter" to the library each month.
Schools: The Lincoln schools got great reviews by the state for special education in its most recent review.
There is no current Parents' Advisory Council. Could the School Committee reactivate it?
Gabriella will write up the school situation and Abigail will synopsize it and put it in the notes.
School Facilities Update Committee: Kitty went to the Nov. 2nd meeting. The Pods, used by Magic Garden, LEAP and the Recreation Committee are all now 'accessible'.
Library Doors: They still lack electric door openers. This issue has been on the burner for several years and we would like to see progress made. D. Dorsey will speak with the building inspector and R.Loud will write a letter to the Library Board of Trustees, the Selectmen and the Building Inspector stating our desire to get this taken care of. We suggest two openers: one on the outside doors, which open to the outside, and another on the interior doors, which currently open 'out' and would need to be re-hinged to open into the library.
(The Massachusetts state disabilities laws are stronger than the Federal laws!)
Bemis Hall: There has been a problem with water around the base of Bemis Hall, which has rusted parts of the new elevator. It will be repaired soon and only out of use for one week.
NEXT MEETING: JANUARY 9, 2006 8 11 A.M. DONALDSON ROOM
