Minutes  of Nov. 7, 2007  Commission On Disabilities Meeting:

The meeting was called to order at 11:00 a.m.
Present:  Rob Loud, Adeline Naiman, Kitty Stein, Deborah Dorsey, Jim Spindler, Fire Chief Cotoni,~ Police Chief Mooney & COA Assistant Director, Pamela Alberts
1.~~~~ Minutes were approved for 6/5/07 and 9/4/07.  The minutes for 10/2/07 will be submitted by Rob Loud for approval on the 12/3/07 meeting.
2.~~~~ Reports: Kitty Stein wanted to add to the reports, but this was tabled.
3.~~~~ Lincoln ADA Self Evaluation & Transition Plan Update:~ report tabled due to absence of Anita Scheipers.
4.~~~~ 11:30 – 12:30 meeting with Chief Cotoni, Chief Mooney & Pam Alberts.  RE:  emergency medication information program(s) that have been and/or are being used by residents and Fire & Safety and the COA.  Could/should program(s) be continued, reactivated~ or expanded?
·~~~~~~ Pill bottle in refrigerator:  currently residents with medical conditions are asked to put a pill bottle in their refrigerator with special instructions and a list of all medications being taken.   Both the police and firemen know to look in the fridge when entering a residence.~ The information in the pill bottles should always be kept up-to-date.
·~~~~~~ Disabled resident:  it is very important for residents of Lincoln to let both the fire and police departments know if anyone in their household is in a wheelchair, on oxygen, vision impaired, hearing impaired, intellectually challenged or has any other disability, so that they will be better prepared to help that person.
·~~~~~~ Connect-CTY:  this is a service that has been in operation since July 2007 that allows authorized civic leaders to create and rapidly disseminate time-sensitive messages to every telephone number stored in the notification database.   Connect-CTY allows the police and fire departments to notify citizens in emergency situations, such as severe weather conditions, road closures, missing persons, etc. by e-mail, phone or cell phone.  Residents of Lincoln can sign up on either the Police or Fire Departments web sites or in person.  Sign up is on a voluntary basis..   At the present time, about 600 people have signed up.  Chief Mooney also said that during the fires in San Diego last month, Connect-CTY was used and it proved to be very effective in their evacuations of communities.
5.~~~~ COA:  Pamela Alberts is the new Assistant Director for the Council on Aging in Lincoln.  She passed out the File of Life Cards to the members of the Commission.  These cards can be used instead of the pill bottles in the refrigerator.  They contain lists of Emergency Contacts and Medical Data.  The cards are available at the COA for any resident of Lincoln.
6.~~~~ Other Business: Deborah Dorsey submitted new information in regards to the installation of a handrail for easier access into the Smith School for voting.  This was tabled.
7.~~~~ Meeting adjourned at 12:35 p.m. Next meeting is at 11:00 a.m. on 12/3/07.

Respectfully submitted:  Deborah Dorsey
