MAY 8, 2008 NURSE STUDY TASK FORCE
TOWN NURSE STUDY TASK FORCE
Minutes from May 1/08 Meeting, 3:00 pm, Donaldson Room

Present: Joe Cavanaugh, Joanna Hopkins, Rob Loud, Tricia McGean, Phyllis Mutschler, Beth Ries, Peggy Schmertzler

Town Nurse Questionnaire. Following discussion on the value of a questionnaire in our Town Nurse Study, we agreed that time and cost constraints limited our results. Rather than a professional analysis of what most Lincoln residents want, our survey will document the desires of those who complete the form. This information, added to the experience of Task Force members serving on the Fire Department, Council on Aging, Board of Health, School Health Unit, Disabilities Commission and Emerson Hospital’s Home Care Unit, plus our pending interviews of individual Lincoln residents and neighboring town nurses, will provide, we believe, sufficient data to decide if Lincoln needs a town nurse.

Next, we discussed and revised Maureen Richichi’s excellent first draft. Beth will revise the copy, circulate it to others, and oversee the final copy. She will work with LCOA to determine layout, flagging, and insertion of this return self-mailer into the June Newsletter mailed to all 2,500 Town households. Task Force members are available to collate.

Joe will refine copy for Town employees, manage distribution and work with Chuck Miller to publish an interactive questionnaire on Town Website. Peggy will deal with paper and printing and handle publicity with Lincoln Journal, Lincoln Schools and Church newsletters, and at usual Town sites, Donlans, the Library, etc, Tricia will distribute questionnaires to clients in Lincoln Blood Pressure Clinics and other events.

Data on health incidents of Lincoln residents. Joe identified, in ‘03, 150 incident reports to Fire Department by residents 60 years and over and In ‘08, January - Åpril, 54 incident reports by same population.. Next Joe will research multiple calls from same address, hopefully to learn which citizens are most at risk.

Data on Town Nurses in neighborig towns. Karen mailed in reports from COA Directors on helpfulness of town nurses to COA’s. Winchester Director included a Geriatric Nurse job description.

Task Force Organization. Joanna and Peggy will serve as Co-Chairs. Minute taking will continue a revolving job. Monday mornings, 10 - noon is the time most members can meet. Next Meeting: Monday, May 12, 10am, location to be announced.

Respectfully submitted, Peggy Schmertzler
