Rec Dept Minutes - October 24, 2005
RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING
October 24, 2005

Attendance: Noah Eckhouse, Ingrid Neri, Jane Tatlock, Susie Collins, Dan Pereira and John Dumont (Minutes)

Minutes:  Review of previous minutes approved.

Finances:  Committee review proposed models of playgrounds. We voted to move ahead with plans for the project. Will take this project before the CPC for funding as a replacement / repair requirement.

Budget review was completed. We saw revenue fell off due to lower program attendance. Our proposed budget model for next year will show a 3% increase. Dan can ask for up to 5% but will need to build further justification for the committee to take this further.

Facilities:  Fields were discussed. Committee recognizes new field pod as next priority item. Discussed various plans being proposed in town. The need for a multi-faceted field pod for use of soccer, baseball, lacrosse etc. was stated. Dan will approach LYS for seed and fertilizer so that w may do an extensive application this fall after soccer season ends next week. Dan requested that a cash retainer be implemented for field use. This would be reimbursed if facility remains in good shape. Motion approved.

Johnny’s Fudge’ building was proposed to the committee once again with an added $1,000 refurbishment supplement. The Committee voted to decline.

Programming: Alex Reveliotty met with the committee to discuss a science work shop he is introducing as an offering to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Program modeling and offering communications methods were discussed. Alex and Dan will continue to hone this for the December brochure.

Stacy drafted a letter for review that gave an update on the town’s basket ball program. She cited coaches and referees as the main area where improvements can be made to the program. To help upgrade these 2 issues, a proposal was made to raise fees from $65 to $100. A tentative approval of this was made but final email vote is needed to ratify.
Other Issues:  The committee discussed an outstanding $1,600 non-payment issue of one family in town. The committee approved the action of forwarding this off to the town for collection if no progress is made.

Next Meetings: 11/21, 12/19/05
