RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETINGS
Minutes 3/20/06

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm.
 
Present: Dan Pereira, Ingrid Neri, Susie Collins, Jane Tatlock, Noah Eckhouse, John Dumont (minutes)

Minutes:  The minutes of the February 17th meeting were approved with a minor correction.

Finances:  They YTD finances were reviewed with no new or significant issues.

School Pod Buildings:  It is still yet to be learned about a new budget line item for utilities at the pod. The School Committee as submitted their budget but the proposed line item has not been confirmed.  Painting of POD A is being scheduled shortly.

Tennis Courts: Opening is scheduled for April 10th. Additional loads of clay are scheduled for delivery and distribution prior to that.

Playground Update:  New Tot Playground: CPA approval for new Tot playground facility is still on course. Smith Playground: No further action taken this month for expansion/refurbishment. Hanscom Playgrounds: The Recreation Committee has been approached with an offer from Hanscom Mgt. They are planning to tear down several playground structures and asked if there was any use for them in our playgrounds. Dan will be touring each of the slated facilities and review possibilities of such use.

Fields: Baseball and Lincoln Soccer are planning a start date of April 8th. The R.C. reserves the right to hold opening of the field facilities until April 15th. A review of the field conditions is ongoing to finalize the opening date.

Pool Update: Folana is returning to the Pool Staff again to take leadership of Summer Operations. Pool staffing is seeing many ‘return’ staff members.

Camp Brochure: Final review completed

Spring Brochure: Final review completed

SkyHawks Summer camp: Noah asked that the Skyhawks program be monitored closely this season for camp quality. He cited Basketball specifically.

Miscellaneous: 1) Ingrid reported that a bow and arrow was in the field behind Smith School. The R.C. wants to insure Recreation activities related to this sport are closely monitored. 2) Ingrid asked if we mail brochures out to Metco families. The answer is ‘yes’.
