RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETINGS
Minutes 5/1/06
The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm.
Present: Dan Pereira, Ingrid Neri, Susie Collins, Jane Tatlock, Noah Eckhouse, Cathy Long (minutes) and newly elected member Ted Julian
Minutes: The minutes of the March 30, 2006 meeting were approved with a minor correction.
Finances: YTD finances were reviewed. Dan will send out an End of April update as soon as data is received from the town office.
School Pod/Building: Painting has been completed and looks great.
Tennis Courts: Clay has been delivered and the courts are open for the season. The new sprinkler system has been tested and the rain sensor will be monitered. Two courts need to be re-rolled due to unauthorized use by the Brooks school. The metal door locking the courts is in the process of being repaired to prevent future infractions. A volunteer morning for clean-up around the shed and courts is in the works.
Fields: All fields are now open for use. Town Office field in previous years has been closed at the beginning of the spring season due to wet conditions. This year is opened on time with an 8 x 8 field. There were problems of LYS teams using the fields before the official opening date. Beginning in the fall LYS will be fined for unauthorized use beginning with $50 for the first infraction and doubling with repeated infractions. Signs will be posted.
Pool Update: Reviewed Stacy’s Codman Pool update. Staffing is on track with many returning guards. The pool needs repainting and this year’s bid is higher than what it has been in the past. Stacy will contact other commercial painting companies.
Camp Update: Camp brochure was mailed and applications are arriving. The biggest issue is the amount of financial aid needed. All applications were approved to the extent that the budget allows but it does not cover the amount requested. Explored options to increase financial aid included requests for donations from local businesses, churches and individuals. Noah and Dan agreed to send out a letter and a more aggressive campaign will be explored for next year.
Miscellaneous: The Celebration Committee expressed concern about the July 4th fireworks foot traffic crossing the paved bridge at night. They have asked if they could install fencing on both sides. Dan will measure the area to make sure delivery/service trucks will still be able to cross with permanent fencing.
CPA funds have been granted for the toddler playground. Plans will be presented at a later date for Fall 2006 construction. Dan is working with Nancy White of O’Brien & Sons who is presenting working on redesigning the Smith School Playground.
Next Meeting: Tentatively scheduled for Monday, May 15th providing it works for John Dumont, retired Chair – Lincoln Recreation
