Rec Dept Minutes – June 18, 2007

Recreation Committee Minutes
                                        June 18, 2007

Present: Noah Eckhouse (minutes), Jane Tatlock, Ingrid Neri, Cathy Long, Ted Julian, Stacey Mulroy and Dan Pereira

Minutes: Minutes from 5/21/07 were reviewed and accepted with minor modifications.

Skate Park: JoEllen Altschaefl & Erik Selsing joined us to discuss the progress on a skatepark proposal.  They are now contemplating a Spring ’08 opening and are interested in using the space next to the Tot Lot for the facility.  A Skatepark Committee has been formed and would like Rec support for using that location by early fall.  After some discussion, the Committee took the plan for consideration and action at a future date.
Programming Update:
Celebrations Programming: Memorial day went well and the 4th of July is all set.  Jonathan and Chrissie have all the elements in place.  Fingers crossed for good weather!

Summer programming: Camp numbers are slowly growing to reasonable levels.  Same with Pool memberships.  The warm weather and end of school are helping.  Stacey has made progress hiring lifeguards

Finances:  The town still has not finalized May accounting.  The Committee reviewed revolving fun numbers and has scheduled a conference call to discuss any last minute end of fiscal year issues that may come up prior to the next meeting.

Online Registration: Ted will coordinate demos this Friday, June 22, from two different registration companies.  Details to follow.

Fields: The fields are scheduled to be aerated in the next few weeks.  There was continued discussion of the need to more significantly maintain the fields as their condition continues to deteriorate.

Pool:  The pool is open and running smoothly.  The only issue has been the chemical injection systems, which was replaced on June 18th, at a cost of $5,000.

Playgrounds: Handyman Ted has been busy repairing and restoring various playground elements, including Strats, the ‘vomit comet’ at the Green playground, and around the tennis courts.  Dan mentioned that we’ll need to invest in some additional wood chips for the playgrounds, as they are becoming worn.

Next Meeting: 9/17/07
