Rec Dept Minutes -January 14, 2008

Recreation Committee Minutes
                                   January 14, 2008

Present: Noah Eckhouse, Ingrid Neri, Susie Collins (minutes), Chris Fasciano, Stacey Mulroy and Dan Pereira

Minutes: Minutes from December meeting were reviewed and accepted as amended.

Committee Calendar: In preparation for getting out our spring brochure, we discussed our policy around what age kids may be left at the pool without adult supervision. Committee voted to up the age to 11. We also discussed the policy for behavior at the pool. If a person has been spoken to repeatedly by staff, it may result in expulsion or suspension of pool membership for up to 2 weeks. The committee also discussed field maintenance. This year we will have a new policy concerning trash pick-up, scheduling and maintenance. There will be a charge for these services. Dan will meet with field users after February vacation.

Programming Update:  Participation in our winter programs is pretty good. Numbers aren’t huge but holding steady and are higher than the fall. Winter sports for all sorts seem popular this year. Gymnastics is down but this is due to competition with Magic Garden.

Winter Carnival: “Sweet & Tart” is our theme because this year the carnival falls in February. Ingrid has gotten good response from people who would like to perform at the coffeehouse. Dan’s in charge of setting up the coffeehouse. Noah will be in charge of skating. Susie and Chris will judge snow sculptures.

Peak Software: Ted is getting no answers so Stacey is taking over. There’s new pricing, now $4 -5,000 to get started. They’re still not ready the on-line registration but we’re putting in our PO purchase order with training. The committee voted to approve $4,500 to make it happen.

Finances:  Dan passed out Nov. and Dec. graphs to date. Because of our new policy to accept registration in the fall for programs later in the year, we are not getting the bump of revenue in Jan. for winter program payments. We will have some new revenue with the field user fees. In any case this November numbers were better than last year’s.

Facilities: The committee discussed the need for handicapped parking at the pool. There’s no good solution because the bridge and path over the stream up to the pool are too steep to qualify. Meanwhile driving over the bridge up too the pool may not work because we don’t know if the bridge can take the weight. We will get new portable signs for the current handicap parking area.
Dan reported the athletic fields received an anonymous gift of $250 for maintenance.

Other Issues: We threw around ideas for a party to thank Cathy Long who’s left our committee.

Next Meeting: 2/25/08, 3/17/08, 4/14/08, 5/19/08, 6/16/08.
